Karl de Vroomen’s paintings invoke unresolved narratives and an atmosphere of mystery. Familiar or banal scenes are underscored by a sense of disquiet or déjà vu that lends the apparently insignificant with an air of threat. His practice is frequently inspired by man’s interventions within the natural world and these unsettling images simultaneously convey anxiety, hope and the artist’s love of paint. De Vroomen received a distinction from the Newcastle University MFA in 2009 and has exhibited at various venues throughout the UK.
